VIGIL
to remember Ali

(Akberali Tayabali Mohamedally)

Black & White
Unite Against
Racist Attacks

Assemble: White Hart Roundabout, Northolt 4pm, Saturday, April 10th

AKBERALI TAYABALI MOHAMEDALLY,
a frail 80 year old pensioner, was murdered in Northolt last week in a vicious and cowardly racist attack.

Known to friends and neighbours as Ali, he was murdered simply because he was Asian. We want to come together to stand up against the bigotry that led to Ali’s killing. We need to send a message that the people of West London are opposed to racism and will not tolerate these kinds of hate crimes in our community.

While two people have been arrested for this attack, we need to stop it ever happening again. Send a united message to the racists and the thugs that we want streets safe for all of us to walk on.

There has been a rise in racist abuse, particularly directed at Muslim people. The war on terrorism has been translated by some into a war against all Muslims. We completely reject this type of racist scapegoating.

Groups like the BNP look to divide us with a message of hate that leads to racist attacks and murders. We will not allow a minority of racists to divide us along racial, religious or ethnic lines. We stand up against those who would make our area a ‘no-go’ area for Black or Asian people.

Together let’s mourn Ali. Together let’s unite against racist attacks.

Last Friday, Akberali Mohamedally, an 80-year-old Southall resident originally from Pakistan, was attacked in a subway in Northolt and was later pronounced dead at Ealing Hospital.

Police are treating the attack as "a racially-motivated murder." Two 16-year-olds were arrested on suspicion of urder yesterday, one of whom appeared in Ealing Magistrates Court today.

Unite Against Fascism are organising a vigil in condemnation of the murder. They will be distributing leaflets for the vigil this Wednesday 7th April at Northolt tube station from 18:00. Please come and help if you possibly can.

I will send out another e-mail when I know the date and time of the vigil itself.

Urgent Appeal to Respond to Racist Murder:

Last Friday night an 80 year old Pakistani man was murdered by racists in an underpass in Northolt.

This horrific attack requires an urgent response.

Yesterday evening (Monday) a meeting was held in Southall by Unite Against Fascism supporters which called for a vigil this Saturday (see details below)

The area in which this attack took place is one of the areas in West London which fascists in the BNP and NF have historically targetted to spread their racist hate and unfortunately this kind of attack is the result.

It is a predominantly white area but it is also, like every other part of the country, an area where the vast majority of people will be sickened by this kind of racism. We need to make sure this attack does not become the basis for fear among people from minority communities who live in the area, or for bolstering the confidence of the minority of racists and fascists who live there.

That means moving quickly to mobilise as many people as possible from the local area to join the vigil on Saturday. This will help build the confidence of anti-racists in the area and isolate the bigots.

Please come along to help leafletting the area for the vigil. Meet at 6pm Northolt Tube Station (Central line) on Wednesday (April 7th). If you can help but can't join in till after 6pm please contact Grace on her mobile to link up with the group at whatever time you arrive - but do still come along! Also if people have cars please bring them.

We will also need help leafletting for the vigil on Saturday from 11.30am to 1.30pm in the nearby Uxbridge town centre (at the entrance to Uxbridge Station). This will coincide with a rally being held by the Aldermaston Marchers who are passing through Uxbridge at that time. The organisers have agreed to include an announcement of the vigil and a minutes silence as part of their anti-war rally.

And of course, join the vigil at 4pm this Saturday at the White Hart Roundabout and encourage friends and family to come too.

Thanks

Hannah
