Mr Murray pointed out the many achievements of the Stop The War
Coalition in the run up to the war and encouraged those present to
continue to oppose the occupation of Iraq and to organise mass protests
for George Bush's intended visit in November. He talked about the way
the government has constantly bombarded us with propaganda. He also
said likened the government's argument that WMDs may exist even though
they haven't yet been found to the way in which parents explain the
existence of father christmas to young children!

Dr. Siddiqui spoke about the situation in Iraq both before and after
the war. He talked about the devastation and destruction which has
occurred since the occupation began and the apparent lack of interest
for human life from the US as well as the broken promises about the
reconstruction of Iraq.

Jeremy Corbyn MP said he had received hundreds of letters from his
constituents telling him they were opposed to the war, and yet in
contrast he had only received one letter in support of the war. He said
that in addition to the Hutton enquiry we need to have a full enquiry
into the circumstances surrounding the war. He also said that any
future demonstrations should call for the withdrawal of troops and for
Iraqis to be able to run the country themselves.

What could be done locally to continue the movement
(meeting called for 5 October! Come along!)
What could be done to make MPs more accountable to their constituents.
